We have been so preoccupied with planning for the year, that I have neglected to post about our Daniel Fast. We are on Day 15 now. And I must say how pleased I am with the children! They are all so "on board" with this whoel process. And although we've been asked a few times for pizza or cake. On the whole, their attitudes have been amazing!
It's amazing to see how addicted to certain foods we were. And how many times we filled with food rather than the Lord.
And meals have been suprising easier. For breafast, we have fruit smoothies! EVERYONE loves these, and we have fun mixing various fruits together!
Our favorite recipes have included:
Vegetable stir fry with brown rice
Roasted potatoes
Hash brown "pancakes" (no egg or flour needed)
Fried plantains with guacamole
Black beans with brown rice
BAked sweet potatoes with cinnamon
Brown rice pilaf
Almond Butter Balls
Coconut Fig bars (these have been a favorite of my children) There is no sugar! And my kids eat them up!
Sauteed green beans
Sauteed mushrooms
Organic popcorn
Veggie Straws
Oatmeal with cinnamon
I was also asked this amazing question!
"Okay I have to ask!! Are you getting slack about doing a fast with young children?? We are also a larger sized family on the Daniel Fast and we have three toddlers and I am interested on your thoughts regarding fasting and children. :D"
The answer to this is yes and no. From some family, we got that the children would not eat well. But from others we were very supported. I think that we went into this knowing that some may disagree children could handle it. But we knew we were to do this as a family. After all, we are supposed to teach our children by example. What better way than to do things as a family.
