Recently, amidst being in a drought, we had a burn ban out here. This week it was lifted. As the children and I were driving home we saw MANY fires and thought we were going through another round of brush fires!!! Then to my surprise, we discovered it was only other burning their brush! So we decided to do the same thing!!!

Since we have moved out here, our boys have just blossomed through all of the work they've been given! It warms my heart to see not only them grow into their roles as "future men", but to see my girls learning how to be willing to be helpers beside their daddy.
It was really cold this weekend! Well...Texas cold. And as this will be our first year here on our farm, we are trying to assign the work to the seasons. We decided that the best time to clear and burn brush would be in the winter (our version of winter ). That way we did not have to do it in the heat.
The girls and I made a hot lunch for all of our hard working fellas and we ate hot sandwiches with baked beans, creamed corn and s'mores by our brush fire!!!!

I am learning a new level of being a "helper to my husband". As he wanted me to clear brush with the family. And drive the car with the trailer hitched to the back of it. I had a few minor accidents, two of which included; we falling really hard on my back while I was pulling a big stubborn branch out of the pile. And me making a small dent in our suburban when backing up with the trailer.
I really did try my best! My husband was so amazing with the trailer! He was a natural at driving with it on the back! We cleaned out the stalls for the donkeys, painted some more signs for the farm and did some more work on the chicken coop, which will be done this weekend!

Later that evening, we began making our Christmas gifts :homemade hot chocolate mix, homemade old fashioned pancake mix,
apple jellies, apple butter and a few other goodies!!!
It was so late when we came to a stopping point, one of my little helpers fell asleep in the corner of the kitchen, fully clothed...

And with a bag of marshmallows in her little hand. It was very cute!!!!!

It was a very rewarding day!!!

I enjoy reading posts about your family working together on projects!
I was wondering if you might consider contributing to my new blog. I'm trying to start a blog about homemaking (doing things yourself, naturally, cheaply, etc.). Seeing as how I don't know everything(!), I am looking for ladies (of all ages) to contribute how-to or encouraging articles. If you are interested, I put more info here: http://diy-homemaker.blogspot.com
I like the atmosphere of your blog, and the servant's heart that radiates from your family. I would like to have articles from ladies like you.
