Making Family Meals More Special

Recently, we had the privilege of hearing Colin & Nancy Campbell speak. She spoke the most beautiful words about the Family Meal Table. About how we , as mothers, have the responsibility and the privilege of nourishing our families. She gave many wonderful ideas and encouraging things for us to implement in our home. So this week, we tried one idea!

RED NIGHT!!!!

I told everyone the night before that the following day would be red night for dinner. And they were to all come to the dinner table in red.

That morning, they were so excited, they all dressed in red. Some, in less than appealing outfits...but they were all red. :)
I decided to cherish the moment, and did not require them to change while we ran errands. Even though they dressed the baby in an outfits that was two different matching plaids. He looked like he was from the 80's.

We got MANY a comment on our red outfits. And the children cheerfully commented on how we were having "red night" tonight!! As we went grocery shopping, they chose our red menu for the night.

Our menu included:

Steak (it's red meat) ;)
Red mashed potatoes
Mozzarella, Basil and tomato salad
Pomegranate
Red pasta
Red pears
Strawberry yogurt
Red apple Snapple

AS we were getting ready for daddy to come home, I was in our closet folding laundry. So focused was I, that I did not hear the children squeal with delight as daddy got home.

As I looked up, I was immediately startled to see my husband with a COMPLETELY RE FACE!!!! He'd stopped off on his way home and bought red face paint. He is so amazing!!!

He then began to paint all of the children's faces!!!

Dinner was amazing! And so fun! Although, it took me DAYS TO GET THE RED PAINT OFF!!!!!

IN THE MIDST OF ALL THE BUSYNESS OF LIFE, THESE PRECIOUS TIMES ARE EASILY PUT ON THE BACK BURNER. BUT WHEN WE PUT A BIT OF EXTRA EFFORT AND PLANNING...WE CREATE MEMORIES THAT WILL LAST A LIFE TIME!!!!!

I love this idea! We may try something similar in our family. How fun!
We did have a purple birthday party for my third daughter back in October. Purple is her favorite color, and so we went with the theme "purple."
I hope you are enjoying your new home.
